ABOUT FIJI - LAND TYPES

Fiji Islands consists of the following land types:

Native land 83.40% 1,519,956 hectares, of which 28% is leased
Government 8.4% (153,884 hectares, of which 79% is leased)
Freehold 8.2% (149,081 hectares)
TOTAL 100% 1,822,921 hectares


Land held in freehold tenure is negotiable with the private owners and estates and in certain cases may require cabinet approval.

Native Land is administered by the Native Land Trust Board, which was established in 1940. The NLTB office is located in Victoria Parade, Suva, Fiji.
