Electricity runs at 240 volts AC, 50Hz. Some hotels provide 110 volt power to their rooms.
Samoa is situated just to the east of the International Dateline and therefore lays claim to being the last country in the world to see the sunset of each day. It is 11 hours behind GMT.

The capital of Samoa is Apia. It is situated on the northern coast of the main island of Upolu.

The country's offshore financial services centre has over 1,000 companies registered. Foreign aid and repatriation of funds are also crucial to the economy.
The main roads which circumnavigate the two main islands are paved (sealed). Secondary, rural access roads remain unsealed.
